Reviewing and Cleaning

The Purge

With several different on line stores that I have, it takes constant review just to keep the content current.  I have been focusing on Society6 and RedBubble, both of those stores I like.  Here are a few reasons:

  • Uploading
  • The products
  • The 30 day payment

I also have a love hate relationship with Zazzle.  I “hate” way that you get paid there.  It can take up to three months to get that PayPal Cha-Ching.  And if you are just starting out and you make less then 50$ in one pay period….. Well they get to float that check a wee bit longer.  I am not a big fan of the websites interaction.  How you set your store up etc.  How you move through the edits on storewide products, are all on my list of pet peeves.   But I do make money from them and there is that “love”.  That and their products are all well made and the reprint of my illustrations, have been great.  I get a lot of return business also.  Soooooo, what am I to do.  I have decided to set up some time to “go through” my store and  storewide compartmentalize  and organize it a bit better.   Of course  I started with Super Pig.  So here are a few things that Zazzle offers in products that the others do not.

Aprons

For orders click on the image or check out my about page for links.

These are great little aprons that have Super Pig featured.  They are busily sewing their super cape.  This would be great for a fiber artist or even an artist in the studio.  Super Pig inspires creative  endeavors  of all kinds.

I love the fact that now with help like Zazzle, artist like myself, needn’t have to depend on an agent, or a company to choose them.  Companies like Spoonflower and Zazzle just to name a few can now give the artist a chance to offer their designs to a large audience.

Night Lights

Click on the image for ordering or visit my about page for links

I love this idea of my illustrations on night lights.  This is great for keeping a light burning in the studio.  If you like my illustrations their is a lot more at my store, Edith Schmidt Art on Zazzle.  My illustrations are whimsical and would be great for just a touch of whimsy in any room.  Children would love this.

Let’s Face Fear

I have been working with the idea of letting our Super Pig Super Hero encounter some life events that some of us take for granted, and others have a real hard time with.   You know like going to doctors.  My biggest anxiety trigger is going to the optometrist.  Some how that little puff of air just terrifies me.  Another one was getting tested for breast cancer.  I was terrified.  I knew I had it. My circumstances at the time was that my husband also had diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma.  What are the chances.  Regardless, it was, and is what it is.  We both had to face our fear, and mortality, and submit to the process of a cure.  In all  this I found that fear can NEVER be in the drivers seat.  It can only be in the passenger seat.  It should not dictate what your choice is.  It is only there to provide caution.  I have also found heroes, and heroes that are now friends during all of this.   I have survived. I have learned that fear will close your eyes and heart and soul to everything that is good in life.  It will leave you parilized.

I am in a much better place and it all due to putting fear in its place.

This lesson of putting fear in its place on a smaller scale,  is what my super hero Super Pig is going through.  Placing fear in the right place.  Learning,  it’s not a guiding force.  Our hero has to face up, and own up, to the fact that perhaps they may need glasses. Our Hero has to admit there might be a problem, and that perhaps their eyes may need a bit of help from the local eye doctor.  Of coarse our Super Hero’s friends rally around, and help in getting the appointments and being a support.  Our Super Hero starts to see that perhaps fear is bigger then the eye problem.  Soon, Super Pig is on their way to the optometrist, going to a place they have never been, in a  part of town that is unfamiliar, meeting people they have never met.  Scary? Yes.

What will happen to our Super Hero?  Will Super Pig have to wear glasses? Will this hinder Super Pig’s Super abilities?  Perhaps he will meet another Super Hero they never thought they would meet………

Tune in next time to find out what happens to our Super Hero.

Here is an Idea

Working With Mockups

sewing-with-super-pigI love children books.  I could spend hours in that department.  Just to look at all the brightly colored illustrations, well it just activates something in my creative mind.  The beauty and the beginning of imagination in someone.  That seed.  Its a powerful thing.  To know that you could put an idea or inspiration in a child’s mind.  In an adult mind for that matter.  It puts ideas in my mind.

super-pig-visits-the-optometrist-book

Here you will notice that I have taken two of my illustrations and put them in a mock up book format.  Just to give that idea, that spark.

So here are a few ideas on how to use my art to write a story or to use my style to illustrate a book.  Enjoy and Contact me if you are in need of art.  Check out my store listing on my about page. I will be talking more about how my art can be used in other creative outlets, such as sewing or paper products. Until next time Au Revoir

Special thanks to Mark at Covervault for the mockups

A New Year

How do you eat a whole chocolate cake?

One bite at a time.

Several years ago I stopped making New Year’s resolutions and started with just making daily intentions.  At that moment, I started to succeed in my goals.  Every day I set my intentions, if it is in movement (exercise) or art, or just cleaning the house.  I find that with these small little changes my cake gets eaten.

The Finding Of Major Tom

How I Deal With Grief

I put my sorrow on the paper in the form of watercolor.  As the image becomes clearer, my grief starts to change.  It seems to leave and pour out in the art.  Better out then in.  I channel all the sorrow, happy, or anger in this way.  Super Pig tells me that even Terri Pritchett wrote from a point of rage as Neil Gaiman said of his friend in an interview with the Guardian.   This past week has been filled with emotions and wrapped with memories and happiness as well.  Being an artist, I have other artist that inspire me and push me to new levels.  David Bowie was one of those individuals.

About “Finding Major Tom”

This image was inspired by the album “Black Star”.  As you can see the alien landscape and the spacesuit have been incorporated in this watercolor.  Super Pig has landed, and is accompanied by his friends, Ginny the Guinea Pig, and Mango the cat.  They are carefully kneeling down, reverent in their observing of the space suit that once held Major Tom.  They know and understand that this being has gone on to a much larger canvas, but they pause to honor the life that touch so many including this artist.

Ground Control To Super Pig

Missing in Space

I have not been posting my usual.  My world has been rocked to its core.  With the loss of David Bowie and then Allen Rickman, well I have not been quite up to my usual.  I will say that when I finally could catch my breath, and listen to David Bowie’s last album and see it.  Really SEE it, it amazed and comforted me. Truly, he as an artist, would be something to aspire to be.  If you have not seen the Black Star Video, then you must.

Working though the emotions when a hero dies

Super Pig just had to go and look for David among the stars.  And so another adventure begins.

Setting A Positive Tone

Getting A Positive Frame of mind

Sometimes my mornings are hectic and sometimes my mornings are quite and reflective, but regardless of what goes on, I still have to come into my studio and produce something for the day.  It helps me greatly if I check my energy prior to even starting my day.

Over a year ago, something extremely negative happened to my family and I was faced with the choice of focusing on that negativity, or putting it aside and moving from that.  It was hard, hard, hard.  It still can be hard even today.  Because that negative thing that happened didn’t go away. We are still dealing with it.It was just before event came in put life, that I had started meditating.  I have kept up the meditations for over a year now.  Just that quite focus at the start of each day has help me greatly with over coming, and coping, with negative emotion.

Why So Serious

Negative emotion can rob you of everything, most of all the joy, creative ability, and purpose in life. In my life at any rate.  It was when I was faced with the choice of holding on to,  or letting go of the negative, and the fear, that consumed me.  I chose art. The light.  The positive.  I was prepared to make room for the positive, even if that meant to remove the pain of negative  emotion.  Now you might say of coarse you would want the positive.  Well sometimes you get so used to the pain that it doesn’t seem like you are choosing a negative. Believe me you can’t draw happy pigs if your full of toxic emotions.

Keep Your Work Space Energized

I want to encourage you to open the  shades and windows.  Let in the light.  Have that cup of tea or coffee or glass of wine at mid day.  Turn up the music.  Take off your shoes and dance.  What ever it takes to fluff up your pillows and air out your soul.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Learn to identify negative emotions that live inside you and  negative Statements that fall from your lips.  It doesn’t mean that you won’t have negative things that come in your life, but you won’t live or dwell in that negativity for ever.  You can acknowledge that its there, and grieve, get angry, but you can let it go. Negative doesn’t have to be your companion.

Enjoy your day, be creative

Christmas Morning

Does there really need to be any words with this image?  I mean wow!  Friends together, joy, excitement!! Let’s not forget pancakes!! Put the kettle on the hob Super Pig, and we all have tea!!  Merry Christmas to all.  A few important reminders, don’t forget to watch a Christmas Story, Home Alone (only the first two) and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, last but not least, Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol.  When you do watch them, really watch them and feel what they are saying.  Until tomorrow Good Cheer to all and Merry Christmas!

Grinch “How could it be so? It came without ribbons!… it came without tags!… it came without packages, boxes, or bags!”
