Come On In

IMG_7445woolhouse journal imageWhat Is Going On?

I have not blogged since I upgraded to my new website.  That is the way it goes sometimes.  I have to make choices as to what to put my energy towards.  Doing that makes me rusty when it comes to blogging. Also I struggle with this, “how is what I do interesting”. I just can’t wrap my head around that people can and are genuinely interested in what my process is.  How can me coming up here to my studio and painting and sketching every day be of interest to any one.  I am open to sharing.  I am open to hearing what you, as my audience, would be interested in.  So do please feel free to interact and start a conversation.  Ask me a question.

I want to be perfectly honest here and just let you guys know my ups and downs. My highs and lows.  Not everything is sunshine and skittles in an artist world. There are wonderful things that do happen and then there are days when nothing happens. I think  you have to be responsible in making your own sunshine when you can. That will carry you through those dark days when you can’t. Like the little “Ant and Grasshopper” in the “Mother West Wind” stories. For your downloadable free copy you can click on the link and enjoy it as well. I find that children stories can be fantastic for adults as well as children.  It’s a simple way to just chill, enjoy fantastic art, and gain a little wisdom as well. Next time you’re in the book store take your coffee or tea over to the children’s section and just chill.  Perhaps find that inner child and nourish them.

Lets jump right into the sunshine that I am currently working on right now.  I don’t want to give too much away because I am working for a client that turned into a friend that turned into a partner.  You know those types of people who when you meet them, anything is possible.  They see the world as you do and inspire you.  Well that is Nicola.  It’s like we grew up together.  Went on adventures together.  So without giving too much away, we are bringing that world to others.  In other words we are sharing our sunshine to inspire and create happiness in the world with this project.  What to expect?  There will be places to visit, recipes, trips to plan, places to create……. Oh and color!!  That is just to name a few of the creative outlets that we will offer.

I want to invite you to join me here on my blog for news about this project and other projects. I will also keep you up on appearances and daily workings in my studio.  You can also sign up for my news letter as well, and be told of pre-orders of projects and new book illustrations, greeting cards, signed originals, etc.

My first appearance will be in  Bad Oeyhausen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany  So sign up and keep in the look as to dates and times.  Did I mention some signed prints?  Yes!  Did I mention a signed original?  Yes, a drawing will be held.

Just Stay Calm and Meditate On

Just finished these up and posted them in my stores at Society6 and Redbubble.  So hurry on over and check them out.  Lots of great quality products to choose from.

A little Tid Bit

Stewart was a product of my imagination.  He was a little rat that loved to meditate.  He always has a cup of tea and a kitchen full of food, a quiet place to sit and a pair of big ears to listen to all of your worries.   He is a loving and gifted rat.   He is one of Super Pigs buddies.

Thank you for dropping by, if you liked my work please comment below and follow me.

See you Soon

Spring Time Songs

I love the spring.  Stick around and you will hear, “I love the fall” or “I love the winter”.  But there is something about the spring time.  New growth.  The ground smells warm and ready to burst with color and life and blooms.  That is what inspired this little image.  That re-birth and celebration that happens every year at spring time.

Songs of spring

That is what this little watercolor is entitled.  These lambs are singing to their hearts content.  Welcoming in the spring time.  I have used Windsor and Newton watercolor on 40 lb cold pressed paper.  This image is available at my Society6 shop and RedBubble.

Let’s Face Fear

I have been working with the idea of letting our Super Pig Super Hero encounter some life events that some of us take for granted, and others have a real hard time with.   You know like going to doctors.  My biggest anxiety trigger is going to the optometrist.  Some how that little puff of air just terrifies me.  Another one was getting tested for breast cancer.  I was terrified.  I knew I had it. My circumstances at the time was that my husband also had diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma.  What are the chances.  Regardless, it was, and is what it is.  We both had to face our fear, and mortality, and submit to the process of a cure.  In all  this I found that fear can NEVER be in the drivers seat.  It can only be in the passenger seat.  It should not dictate what your choice is.  It is only there to provide caution.  I have also found heroes, and heroes that are now friends during all of this.   I have survived. I have learned that fear will close your eyes and heart and soul to everything that is good in life.  It will leave you parilized.

I am in a much better place and it all due to putting fear in its place.

This lesson of putting fear in its place on a smaller scale,  is what my super hero Super Pig is going through.  Placing fear in the right place.  Learning,  it’s not a guiding force.  Our hero has to face up, and own up, to the fact that perhaps they may need glasses. Our Hero has to admit there might be a problem, and that perhaps their eyes may need a bit of help from the local eye doctor.  Of coarse our Super Hero’s friends rally around, and help in getting the appointments and being a support.  Our Super Hero starts to see that perhaps fear is bigger then the eye problem.  Soon, Super Pig is on their way to the optometrist, going to a place they have never been, in a  part of town that is unfamiliar, meeting people they have never met.  Scary? Yes.

What will happen to our Super Hero?  Will Super Pig have to wear glasses? Will this hinder Super Pig’s Super abilities?  Perhaps he will meet another Super Hero they never thought they would meet………

Tune in next time to find out what happens to our Super Hero.

Finding Major Tom

finding-major-tom-book

Here is my version of the way my little Super Pig’s book would look like.  The finding of Major Tom.  This was inspired by David Bowie’s death and life.  Super Pig and his friends have heard of the great Major Tom and have decided to embark on the adventure of all times.  To seek out Major Tom.  They have great adventures and perils.  But the all find Major Tom on a deserted moon.  It looks as if he has just fallen asleep.  The three friends kneel down and for a moment time stops, and they remember the gifts Major Tom gave them.  Even the stars and the moon weeps for Major Tom.

Here is an Idea

Working With Mockups

sewing-with-super-pigI love children books.  I could spend hours in that department.  Just to look at all the brightly colored illustrations, well it just activates something in my creative mind.  The beauty and the beginning of imagination in someone.  That seed.  Its a powerful thing.  To know that you could put an idea or inspiration in a child’s mind.  In an adult mind for that matter.  It puts ideas in my mind.

super-pig-visits-the-optometrist-book

Here you will notice that I have taken two of my illustrations and put them in a mock up book format.  Just to give that idea, that spark.

So here are a few ideas on how to use my art to write a story or to use my style to illustrate a book.  Enjoy and Contact me if you are in need of art.  Check out my store listing on my about page. I will be talking more about how my art can be used in other creative outlets, such as sewing or paper products. Until next time Au Revoir

Special thanks to Mark at Covervault for the mockups

Creating Boundaries

As usual,  this is my view, an artist view, on how I am traveling through emotional illness, and a few other things that life decided to thow into the mix as well.  In this short stand on my little soap box, I will try let you peek in to my interpretation of Walls and Boundaries.

WALLS

imageWalls are built after years and years.  You can’t see though them.  Sometimes you even forget you have built a wall.  People can not get through or over walls.  They are there for a reason.  NO ACCESS.  They rarely do anyone any good.  Mostly they make bitter people.  Sometimes even socially awkward. The biggest thing I think we can agree on is they prevent us from enjoying life.

Boundaries

Boundaries are invisible yet your can see them.  Like heat waves.  You know you see them you know they are there.  You can cross them if your ballsy,  but your most likely to be told to get back on the other side. After all it’s there for your protection as well as the person who put it out there.  They allow interaction by agreeing that there are certain things that are permissible and certain things that are not. And let’s face it that’s good for everyone.

imageMy Examples of Boundaries

After 4 weeks of being flat on my back and then having to recover bit by bit, I learned a little about setting boundaries with others.  I have different boundaries for different people. I have different boundaries for different areas in my life.  They help me remain comfortable and in control of my emotions.  Since I currently deal with several one of them being health here are the health boundaries.

A.  Do not ask me how I feel

B. Do not say “Oh I’m so sorry”,  I always want to say “oh my GOD am I fucking DEAD asshole???

C. Do not tell me story of Jane, who the fuck, who had what the fuck!  It’s not my circus not my monkey!

D. Do not question me on anything my doctors and I have talked about or how I am being treated,  {Believe it or not some have been offended at this } moving on………..

E. Do No ask me what I have.  Especially if you have no relation with me, no on going friendship.  If I want you to know I will tell you end of discussion. My best friend gets that all to herself. Why?  She is that MY BEST FRIEND!

You can how ever be my friend. I always need those.  Those women who have magic, who have love to give. They have stories to tell magic to weave and healing to give.

Ask how you can be of service.   This is how you weed them out.  The talkers who just want little bits of info don’t care to  every put time in to actually make you life easier.  They just want the gossip.

Engage with me on a regular basis.  Self explanatory..

Inspire me, Self explanatory

It would not hurt to purchase my art.  (That last one is just a plug for me but it would not hurt)

This leaves me to my recent endeavor in the studio.  I have a friend that has some pugs!!

Well You can see the rest!! This little sweetie took a nose dive into some French toast one morning and looked up with  a sugar coated pug nose. Thus inspiration…….

Letting it Pass

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

I talk a lot about emotion and letting it go and not holding on to it.  Holding on to the emotion is when things can begin to build up and begin to become toxic.  It is okay to be angry or upset.  Just acknowledge it and let it pass.  Like a storm.  Storms don’t last forever.  They can have their value.  Their inspiration.

Take the time to grieve

It’s okay to just take the time to grieve  But also while you are doing that nurture yourself.  Choose to hold your head in the sun light and be thankful. Remember if your emotionally ill there is a difference and you can work your way out of it.  surround yourself with supportive people. Positive.

One of my rules for myself is I only talk to one close friend about my issue and it is only once to see if I have explored all the avenues that would “help” my situation.  Then I leave it alone.  My friend knows my situation and will remember it.  If something comes to mind they will share an idea at a later date.  I don’t keep going over and over and over it.  Or reliving it.  Every one is different and they could have a close group of friends. Sometimes bits of your life may be shared so that someone knows a part therefor knows something so that they are better able to help.

Friendly support

If you are hard pressed on what to do for some one who is in a emotional crisis then how about a distraction.  A day out.  Perhaps you could take that friend to a favorite hand crafted bath shop and purchase them a nice bath scrub.  Or out to lunch and a movie.  Their type of lunch and their type of move.  A walk around the mall.  A movie night at their house with some funny movies. A dinner that you made and brought over.  These are just a few ideas.
