So Much News

It’s been so busy this year!  No excuse I know for not keeping in touch.  Sometimes its a choice  between Blogging or creating art.  The life of an artist.  What to do.

Let me break into my newest news.  Earlier this year I asked the universe to open my life up.  To let my mind be open to all possibilities.   I didn’t know what I was asking for, or where it all would lead to, but the universe delivered.  It delivered  more then I ever expected. With that let me introduce to you Woolhouse’s power house Nicola.  We have partnered up to deliver art and wool.  Yep. Two of my favorite things in the WORLD.  Okay focus, focus…

Nicola of Woolhouse my Friend and Partner

I have been in Germany for the last week helping my friend and partner open up her distribution warehouse. This will be the distribution center for West York Shire Spinners, King Cole and Wendy and Peter Pan wool. (Just click on the Woolhouse link to view some of the fantastic wools)  This partnership not only provides wool to the world (world wide shipping) but also all the art, that those who love anything to do with the love of wool, yarn, felt, would need.  My art work will be sold world wide.  For example, calendars, journals, post cards, prints, you name it.  So if you’re a died in the wool hard core customer or wool vendor then this one shop power house,is the place to stock up your store or your stash.

Reviewing and Cleaning

The Purge

With several different on line stores that I have, it takes constant review just to keep the content current.  I have been focusing on Society6 and RedBubble, both of those stores I like.  Here are a few reasons:

  • Uploading
  • The products
  • The 30 day payment

I also have a love hate relationship with Zazzle.  I “hate” way that you get paid there.  It can take up to three months to get that PayPal Cha-Ching.  And if you are just starting out and you make less then 50$ in one pay period….. Well they get to float that check a wee bit longer.  I am not a big fan of the websites interaction.  How you set your store up etc.  How you move through the edits on storewide products, are all on my list of pet peeves.   But I do make money from them and there is that “love”.  That and their products are all well made and the reprint of my illustrations, have been great.  I get a lot of return business also.  Soooooo, what am I to do.  I have decided to set up some time to “go through” my store and  storewide compartmentalize  and organize it a bit better.   Of course  I started with Super Pig.  So here are a few things that Zazzle offers in products that the others do not.

Aprons

For orders click on the image or check out my about page for links.

These are great little aprons that have Super Pig featured.  They are busily sewing their super cape.  This would be great for a fiber artist or even an artist in the studio.  Super Pig inspires creative  endeavors  of all kinds.

I love the fact that now with help like Zazzle, artist like myself, needn’t have to depend on an agent, or a company to choose them.  Companies like Spoonflower and Zazzle just to name a few can now give the artist a chance to offer their designs to a large audience.

Night Lights

Click on the image for ordering or visit my about page for links

I love this idea of my illustrations on night lights.  This is great for keeping a light burning in the studio.  If you like my illustrations their is a lot more at my store, Edith Schmidt Art on Zazzle.  My illustrations are whimsical and would be great for just a touch of whimsy in any room.  Children would love this.

Let’s Face Fear

I have been working with the idea of letting our Super Pig Super Hero encounter some life events that some of us take for granted, and others have a real hard time with.   You know like going to doctors.  My biggest anxiety trigger is going to the optometrist.  Some how that little puff of air just terrifies me.  Another one was getting tested for breast cancer.  I was terrified.  I knew I had it. My circumstances at the time was that my husband also had diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma.  What are the chances.  Regardless, it was, and is what it is.  We both had to face our fear, and mortality, and submit to the process of a cure.  In all  this I found that fear can NEVER be in the drivers seat.  It can only be in the passenger seat.  It should not dictate what your choice is.  It is only there to provide caution.  I have also found heroes, and heroes that are now friends during all of this.   I have survived. I have learned that fear will close your eyes and heart and soul to everything that is good in life.  It will leave you parilized.

I am in a much better place and it all due to putting fear in its place.

super-pig-visits-the-optometrist-book

This lesson of putting fear in its place on a smaller scale,  is what my super hero Super Pig is going through.  Placing fear in the right place.  Learning,  it’s not a guiding force.  Our hero has to face up, and own up, to the fact that perhaps they may need glasses. Our Hero has to admit there might be a problem, and that perhaps their eyes may need a bit of help from the local eye doctor.  Of coarse our Super Hero’s friends rally around, and help in getting the appointments and being a support.  Our Super Hero starts to see that perhaps fear is bigger then the eye problem.  Soon, Super Pig is on their way to the optometrist, going to a place they have never been, in a  part of town that is unfamiliar, meeting people they have never met.  Scary? Yes.

super-pig-goes-to-the-optomatrist

What will happen to our Super Hero?  Will Super Pig have to wear glasses? Will this hinder Super Pig’s Super abilities?  Perhaps he will meet another Super Hero they never thought they would meet………

Tune in next time to find out what happens to our Super Hero.

Finding Major Tom

finding-major-tom-book

Here is my version of the way my little Super Pig’s book would look like.  The finding of Major Tom.  This was inspired by David Bowie’s death and life.  Super Pig and his friends have heard of the great Major Tom and have decided to embark on the adventure of all times.  To seek out Major Tom.  They have great adventures and perils.  But the all find Major Tom on a deserted moon.  It looks as if he has just fallen asleep.  The three friends kneel down and for a moment time stops, and they remember the gifts Major Tom gave them.  Even the stars and the moon weeps for Major Tom.

You can find these prints available at my store on Society6 or Red Bubble

What Pink Bows Mean To Me

October and Breast Cancer Awareness

Ah, the month that everything turns pink. Drill bits, chicken buckets, tampons, kitchenaid, any product that pulls on your heart-strings. Women smiling with pink shirts.  All neatly packaged and marked, and nothing that would shock or give you the real picture of what breast cancer is really like. “After all, we have grandmothers who will see,” is what I was told. Well, mine fucking died from it. I saw her radiation burns every day. So, I say let’s pull back the curtain on the battle scars, the Frankenstein operations, and reconstructions; how it feels like razor wire with every breath you take after you’re sent home from the operation with drainage tubes, staples now closing a 6 to 7 inch incision (or if you opted for a double, then a total of 14 inches). The daily fight going through chemo, the shots to increase your white blood cell count (often worse than the chemo), the radiation, the hormone suppression. Let’s talk about the numbness under your arm or arms… Better practice your mobility; better pray; better hope that that son of bitch didn’t migrate to any other place in your body, brain, lungs…. Sleep well.  If you’re not on anti-anxiety meds, you will be now. By the way, one bag of the anti-nausea medication that accompanies chemo costs $6,000, one prescription of anti-nausea cost $165.

Whatever You Do, Don’t Cover It Up

Because no matter how barbaric the treatments are, you are thankful to whatever higher power there is that you kicked the shit out of cancer. You cut it out, you burned it out, you radiated it out. You fought a war, and you have the scars to prove it it. The monuments on your body, and those scars, are to be held in reverence and never to be covered up or to be ashamed of. If I had it my way, all walks would be done topless, all photos topless. That… is awareness. That give the awairness to others. It drives that message home on a whole new level.

Hair loss… that is the least of your worries, or should be. Wear that bald head proud. NEVER COVER IT UP. I hate to see a women cover her head. Let others see it, and when someone stares, ask them what the fuck they’re looking at! I guarantee they won’t do a damn thing. By the way, you can order a cap that will prevent your hair loss.  But you know, why make cancer invisible. But perhaps your hair is your identity, like perhaps your boobs are. No judgment here.

Just Remember to Honor Yourself and Others

If you have cancer, or know someone who does, please do the research on how to communicate with them. Don’t keep asking, “How do you feel, how is your treatment going?” Really people how the hell do you think its going.  Make them a meal, Take them out, sit with them, rent a movie with them, share your life with them.  MAKE AN EFFORT TO INTERACT IN THEIR LIFE.  Don’t just sit back on the side lines and say I’m glad it’s not me cause people it can be one day.  This is the fight against cancer.  This is how you make a difference each and every day.  In this way you honor yourself and others.

In closing

Just remember bald is not shameful, flat is beautiful, scars are also beautiful and can remind us of where we have been and where we are going.  They are the monuments of battles fought.  Live life one second at a time. And learn to live life in joy no matter how hard.

I love you all

Creating Boundaries

As usual,  this is my view, an artist view, on how I am traveling through emotional illness, and a few other things that life decided to thow into the mix as well.  In this short stand on my little soap box, I will try let you peek in to my interpretation of Walls and Boundaries.

WALLS

imageWalls are built after years and years.  You can’t see though them.  Sometimes you even forget you have built a wall.  People can not get through or over walls.  They are there for a reason.  NO ACCESS.  They rarely do anyone any good.  Mostly they make bitter people.  Sometimes even socially awkward. The biggest thing I think we can agree on is they prevent us from enjoying life.

Boundaries

Boundaries are invisible yet your can see them.  Like heat waves.  You know you see them you know they are there.  You can cross them if your ballsy,  but your most likely to be told to get back on the other side. After all it’s there for your protection as well as the person who put it out there.  They allow interaction by agreeing that there are certain things that are permissible and certain things that are not. And let’s face it that’s good for everyone.

imageMy Examples of Boundaries

After 4 weeks of being flat on my back and then having to recover bit by bit, I learned a little about setting boundaries with others.  I have different boundaries for different people. I have different boundaries for different areas in my life.  They help me remain comfortable and in control of my emotions.  Since I currently deal with several one of them being health here are the health boundaries.

A.  Do not ask me how I feel

B. Do not say “Oh I’m so sorry”,  I always want to say “oh my GOD am I fucking DEAD asshole???

C. Do not tell me story of Jane, who the fuck, who had what the fuck!  It’s not my circus not my monkey!

D. Do not question me on anything my doctors and I have talked about or how I am being treated,  {Believe it or not some have been offended at this } moving on………..

E. Do No ask me what I have.  Especially if you have no relation with me, no on going friendship.  If I want you to know I will tell you end of discussion. My best friend gets that all to herself. Why?  She is that MY BEST FRIEND!

You can how ever be my friend. I always need those.  Those women who have magic, who have love to give. They have stories to tell magic to weave and healing to give.

Ask how you can be of service.   This is how you weed them out.  The talkers who just want little bits of info don’t care to  every put time in to actually make you life easier.  They just want the gossip.

Engage with me on a regular basis.  Self explanatory..

Inspire me, Self explanatory

It would not hurt to purchase my art.  (That last one is just a plug for me but it would not hurt)

This leaves me to my recent endeavor in the studio.  I have a friend that has some pugs!!

Well You can see the rest!! This little sweetie took a nose dive into some French toast one morning and looked up with  a sugar coated pug nose. Thus inspiration…….
